Slice of Advice #2 - Dress Codes

Dress Codes: Plural of Dress Code

Noun:
1. A set of rules, usually written and posted, specifying the required manner of dress at a school, office club restaurant, etc.
2. The customary style of dress of a specified group.

Simple right? Then why are so many women getting it so wrong?

It seems these days that young women feel that every occasion calls for a mini dress and the highest of high heels. Don't get me wrong there is absolutely a time and place for this attire (i.e. the dance floor), however this does not translate to shopping centres, baby showers, polo in the park and perhaps most poignantly; the beach. What ever happened to dressing for the occasion and in turn, dressing like a lady? Wearing havianas and a kaftan to the beach is far more appropriate, and more likely to turn heads than trying to wobble your way down a sand dune in a sparkly number with wedge heels.

Dressing for the occasion used to be the done thing - and sadly it is a tradition that appears to be rapidly fading into non-existence. So I urge you, If there is water involved, think nautically; stripes, blue, red, loafers. If there is a picnic wear a summery dress. If you're working in an office lose the leather and denim. If you're going to a wedding think cocktail not nightclub. And my favourite of all, if you're travelling by plane; don a blazer with your jeans and get all Jackie O on their asses by wearing your biggest sunnies, styled hair and a large tote (lose the uggs!).

Do understand, I am an avid bun on top of the head, tracky pant loving, short dress wearing woman - but there is a time and a place...so why not exploit every chance you get to dress for the occasion!
